Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, located in Marietta, Georgia, is a historic site commemorating the Atlanta Campaign and the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain during the Civil War. The park, attracting approximately 1.9 million visitors annually, provides a rich educational and recreational experience. The visitor center is a focal point of the park, offering exhibits, films, and guided tours to enhance visitors’ understanding of the site’s historical significance. However, to ensure accessibility for all visitors, significant upgrades were needed to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The ADA upgrade project at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park included several critical enhancements to the Visitor Center and surrounding areas. For instance, B2 Constructors upgraded the existing A/V system in the Visitor Center theater to assist visually and hearing-impaired patrons. We also replaced restroom countertops and frames with ADA-compliant motion sensor faucets and under-mount sinks, and installed ADA-compliant toilets, brochure stands, and storefront doors. Additionally, we installed new power wiring and conduit for ADA operators and replaced four existing outdoor drinking fountains with freeze-resistant models. These are just a few examples of the upgrades that aimed to ensure full ADA compliance, providing an inclusive and accessible environment for all visitors.
The project was executed to ensure that all upgrades adhered to the current ADA guidelines. The completed project stands as a testament to the park’s commitment to accessibility, significantly enhancing the accessibility and inclusivity of the Visitor Center. This commitment to accessibility aligns perfectly with the park’s mission to provide an equitable experience for all visitors, allowing everyone to engage fully with the park’s resources and historical narratives.
