Replace Cooling Towers

Federal Correctional Complex (Forrest City, AR)

The Federal Correctional Complex (FCC) in Forrest City, Arkansas, spans approximately 2,000 acres, providing secure incarceration and rehabilitation for medium-security male inmates. The facility includes multiple security levels to accommodate various inmate populations.

The “Replace Cooling Towers” project at FCC Forrest City was self-performed by B2 Constructors using local union craft. This involved the dismantling and replacing of two existing 750-ton cooling towers, along with the associated pipe, fittings, and valves. The new cooling towers were installed with Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) fans, an updated electrical system, new controls, and mechanical insulation enhancing the efficiency and reliability of the facility’s cooling system. Given the facility’s requirement for year-round operation of its chillers, the project adopted a phased approach, replacing one cooling tower at a time while keeping the other fully operational, ensuring continuous cooling capacity, and minimizing disruptions to the facility’s operations throughout the project.
