The Biloxi National Cemetery project involved a comprehensive upgrade to the site-wide irrigation system and roadway reconstruction. Established in 1934, the Biloxi National Cemetery is a final resting place for our esteemed veterans and their eligible family members. Located on the grounds of the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center near Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, the cemetery spans approximately 54 acres and has over 27,000 interments as of 2024.
The project involves installing a new, state-of-the-art irrigation system and significantly improving the cemetery’s roadways. It enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the cemetery and ensured a more comfortable and accessible environment for visitors, including veterans and their families. The irrigation scope installed more than 70,000 linear feet of pipe throughout the cemetery, utilizing directional boring techniques at road crossings to minimize road demolition. The upgrade consists of a new Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) controlled pump with pressure control, an advanced irrigation control system, and new flower watering stations with concrete pads and signage. The irrigation system ensures 100% cemetery coverage for an always pristine and green cemetery.
In tandem, the roadway reconstruction component focuses on milling and paving existing asphalt roads and adding several thousand linear feet of cast-in-place curbing. The project also constructed a new entrance to the cemetery, featuring a roundabout with paving, curbing, and a landscaped center. These enhancements aim to significantly improve transportation within the cemetery grounds and contribute to the overall beautification of the site, promising a more accessible and aesthetically pleasing environment for all.
